We owe.

Your birth was considered a taboo,
Each step you took since was subject to review.
The only valid reason to open your mouth was to satisfy the needs of men,
Human rights were wrong for you, hell you needed approval to even pick up a pen.
At times your lights are turned off even before you enter the world,
The atrocities you are put through can make even the bravest of men curl.

The darkest of men want to marry the brightest of you,
But brightness isn’t linked to the mind here, it means how your skin glows.
Everyone wants a son to carry the family name through,
Not one person thinks that if there aren’t any of you left there’s no way it will grow.
Oh and you should be a virgin too, sex is only a luxury afforded to the male species,
I wonder who they have it with though since homosexuality isn’t considered very peachy.
You should save yourself for after the vows,
While we go about spraying our semen everytime we feel aroused.

It’s not only the men that try and hold you back,
Sometimes it’s your own that give you the most awful slack.
Do something about your weight, work out not like you have the best rack.
Focusing on your career is detrimental to your marriageability,
You are subject to various superstitions and potions to enhance your fertility.
Well because if you and your spouse are not able to have a kid its clearly your fault,
No ones seems to consider that there may be something wrong with the liquid in his vault.

Everytime at a party you have more than a glass of wine,
Some boy will think you are open to sixty-nine.
Because alcohol works in different ways on both of us,
When you resist our advances we wonder why the fuss?
We drink to wash off the stress,
You drink as invitation to rip off that dress.
We create a weird paradox, when you refuse us you are no fun and a bore,
Yet when you think us worthy and align with our advances we proclaim to our friends later that you are a whore.
Because one night stands only stand for men,
For women its taboo to get out of their den.

In the corporate world it’s the same,
If you get promoted obviously you have slept with the boss.
You were evidently a great player of the game,
Your dress is what did the trick and ofcourse your lips with gloss.
Because why would it matter that you exceled in every department,
You obviously paid a visit to his apartment.

Yet it surprises me that we are called “stronger”,
I have never come across a statement which could leave so much to ponder.
In every department you have proven yourself to be capable.
Time and again you have shown with example that the world is changeable.
You have shown yourself to be financially independent,
That you need no man to tie you with a beautiful pendant.
You have made the world hear your voice,
You have made us see that you are no toys.

You lead in every aspect,
We are well aware of your abilities as a home maker,
But you lead in the corporate world as well with your trait of being a risk taker.
Sometimes I wonder if you are an evolved version of ourselves,
Exemplifying all traits and yet showcasing so much empathy.
If anything I think its us men who deserve the sympathy.
Sympathy being something which we shower our women with,
But when it comes to rewarding them basis merit that’s still a myth.

We owe you a promise and an apology,
An apology to segregate on the basis of biology,
And a promise to make the world a better place ,
For this world would be nothing without its women leading the race.
So come and stake your rightful claim,
Speak out, speak loud and we promise to lend a year without subjecting you to any shame.
While no apology will repair the damage already done,
It may help the world come out of this dark period,
So we promise to clear the way for you to rise like the sun.

We owe you no sly smirks when you gulp your drink,
We owe you no surprise when you make your point without a blink.
We owe you respect when you are our boss,
We owe you a mentality where you are there for more than just sauce.
We owe you not being the trash can for our failure,
We owe you a world where you are more than just our saviour.
We owe you a world where respect, love and empathy are not just a luxury,
We owe you are world where you are valued for more than just being motherly.
We owe you not facing the fury of our temper,
We owe you a world not judging on the basis of gender.
We owe you acceptance of your sexual choices ,
We owe you a world where we no longer muffle your voices.
We owe you a right to be educated,
We owe you a world where being a female is no longer ill fated.

Two Member Crew.

You thought you looked a mess,
But I thought that was a very fortunate dress.
Being flung on your body, it had experienced an increase in its worth
And the smile your face made it the most beautiful dress on earth.

You look just as good with or without specs,
I am just lucky your eyes have the power to salvage wrecks.
I am pretty sure they possess night vision,
There is no other way you avoided our collision.
For I had meticulously planned every detail,
And yet your soul was so bright it had me derailed.

Lightning never strikes the same place twice,
Then how is it that everytime we meet you ignite my spark?
Maybe thats true love’s true price,
That with them your whole world is a bright summers day but without them its always going to be dark.

It took me a while to get you and I am sorry to have taken that long
I had to take that path to learn right from wrong.
And now its my turn to wait, hopefully its not too prolonged
Now I know you make sense of each love song.

We are very similar and opposites attract
But that doesn't mean we will repel.
We can negotiate some pact,
Together all problems we can quell.

I don't know if I’ll catch you when you fall,
But if not Ill be there sprawled on the ground too.
Together we can help each other stand tall,
I am in this with you through and through.

All my loyalties lie with your heart,
Its like they’ve been pinned on by an immovable dart.
So I don’t plan to give up anytime soon,
I may have been born a pauper but you’re my silver spoon.

All that time you were right here
I was looking in every direction except where you stood.
Its only now that its become inevitably clear
That you are where I am meant to be, no point wandering aimlessly in the woods.

I was just reaching out in the dark,
Stretching my fingers I found you.
It was then I realized that the dark isn't all that bad in all its might,

As long as i have you, I know it can’t be too long till we see the light.

Ofcourse these are just words I am saying,
All part of a bigger game that I am playing.
It doesn’t mean the words aren’t true
But the purpose of the game is to make you a part of my 2 member crew.

Brittle

Breathe in, just for a while.
Walk a little more, that extra mile.
I know your heart’s kept away like a dust covered file,
So why don’t you go and retrieve it from that wretched pile.
And I’ll be waiting right here for you, sprawled over these tiles
Babe, my love for you flows longer than the Nile
And I won’t go away till I am number one on your speed dial,
Come on let’s face it, the last line made you smile.

You got me looking to the left and moving to the right,
You got me in a beautiful fright.
So let me be your co-pilot
I won’t let it crash regardless of the climate.
If I fall asleep, just squeeze my hand
And ill make sure we don’t disband.
And if you get scared of the height, let me know
I’ll make sure the sky has enough land.

I’ll be the one that breaks from the trend.
Baby, I’ll walk every step of the way with you to a never arriving end.
Love as a concept can be very ethereal,
But you and me can turn it into something imperial.
A broken heart can bleed dry its true,
But don’t worry, I’ve got you this time, I am your superglue.
I’ll hold you together, don’t you fret,  I am not like the rest.
I’ll be yours forever, so just be mine
Trust me my dear, I’ll be right here, you get to decide where to draw the line.

Forget about the ones who caused you pain,
You’re my greatest gain, so don’t you worry about them,
I’ll be your warrior, send those memories down the drain.
Our love will be like Achilles minus the heel,
You will be my queen, your heart will never be made to kneel.
Its natural I know, this hesitation,
But baby you are my crown and I am not interested in any abdication.

So breathe a little lighter,
I am your eternal fighter and my flame for you will only grow brighter.
So why don’t you redefine love,
If it gets cold, I’ll be your glove.
I’ll take on the frost
I’ll keep you warm no matter the cost
So why don’t t you trust a little
Love can be beautiful even when the heart  is brittle.

Beat.

Even a broken heart can beat again,
Through the fractures of your heart love can ebb out
No matter how much they made you scream and shout
There’s always going to be a way to find shelter from the pain.

Everybody will have their flaws,
Each one will draw out their claws.
Its on you to separate the ones who dig them into you
From those who will slash at the obstacles  between you two.

They will fly to you when you call their name,
For them your heart isn't a game.
Yes, its always turned out the same in the past,
But maybe they were the ones that fate had cast.
So don’t turn them away in fear,
Maybe they are the ones to make it worth every tear.
How can you expect to spot a rainbow in the rain
When you don't believe that a broken heart can beat again?

Each experience has made you the person you are today,
So don't regret yesterday, just take hold of the moment and sway.
Life is full of moments which shatter,
But eventually you’ll find just the right dish in the platter.
So go on, don't stop the tasting,
Eventually you’ll arrive at the dish that demands no wasting.

All your inhibitions, your apprehensions are justified.
But its on you to take these moments in your stride.
Just take a leap of faith and glide.
For if you don’t have limitless faith in your destiny, then what good is pride?
You may not like yourself very much right now,
But someone out there likes themselves better when with you
They are like fireflies and for them you are night,
If you aren't there, they cant seem to glow right.

So trust in a higher power and believe in the best
There is going to be a shower that's going to put all your fears to rest.
Just don't carry an umbrella, for this rain will be your shelter,
This rain will bring you peace as well as moments of helter-skelter
This will be worth every scrape, every pain every emotional drain,
As long as you believe that broken hearts can beat again.

Lost and found.

Feeling so lost,
My dreams untouched, have become coated with frost.
I don’t know where I am nor where I am headed,
My courage eluded me, it’s like it was shredded.
One moment I had it all worked out
Then suddenly creeps in the demon of self-doubt.
Look forward the road seems foggy.
I couldn’t think straight, I was groggy.
Confused, restless and frustrated
You couldn’t help but think the this path was ill-fated.

This was the most challenging phase of life yet
I couldn’t think of reaching the goals I had set.
However, this time was the one most integral to reach my prime.
Self-doubt, confusion and restlessness are all essential crimes.
They force you to question, they force you to think,
When going full throttle they ask you to stop, and blink.
In the darkest of moments, when you are truly lost,
Lost but still pushing yourself to think at any cost
Thinking when there seems to be no clear direction to your thought
When there seems to be no way out, caught in the tightest of spots.
There will be a moment in the dark,
A moment where the friction within you will ignite a spark.

You will then come out swinging,
Full of belief your punches will be stinging.
The smile will return, the road ahead will start to clear.
You will then realize that your best friend was your fear.
For where there is fear there a choice to run or to fight.
If you chose to stand and fight, the road ahead will leave the chasing pack out of sight.
Feeling so lost, I found myself at a steep cost,
But it’s got me a burning belief and close to my dreams covered with frost.

Waves

It comes and goes in waves
You can see it like like rain from the comfort of your cave
Only few have the courage to reach out and touch the water.
Most of us fear about 'what if we falter?'
We are filled with regret over the lost chance
But what we don't realise is life will always play the music for another dance.

It comes and goes in waves.
The low tide is safe and comfortable
But thats not the way to write your fable.
You have to risk the storm and face the thunder.
So what if you get smashed against the rocks
Your spirit is unbreakable it will overcome this blunder.
Your ship is not meant to stay forever anchored at the docks.
So ride , ride bravely on the high tide
Once you make it to open sea, you will be filled with pride.

It comes and goes in waves
You owe it to yourself to not be fazed.
Don't batten down the hatches,
When the wind comes, you must unfurl your sails
Don't back down when you face rough patches
Your spirit will get you back up when all else fails.
To live a life of comfort is easy
But to live a life worth living you have to get your hands greasy.
You have to burn the midnight oil
Or else this comfort will eventually make your blood boil
So go get out of your zone
You only have to navigate once through the stones.
Once out in the open ocean
You'll know that this was the best promotion

The Bet.

Out of all the things that I regret,
Its definitely not the day we met.
To come up and say hi to you, it was a simple bet.
I have never been more grateful for being sent to a random stranger yet.
Out of all the things that I regret,
It definitely wasn’t taking that bet.

It started out as a random act,
But I was attracted towards your enchanting smile, that's a fact.
Everyday I came up and said hi pretending it was all a part of the bet
But it was all a sham, I just needed a reason to speak to you,
A way to make you fall straight into my net.
Out of all the things that I regret,
It definitely wasn’t breaking that sweat.

Before I saw you that day basking in the sun,
I was a lone ranger, just on the run.
But the moment I saw you, seeing your eyes gleam,
I knew I had to stop moving, to pinch myself to make sure you weren’t a dream.
I had to come to you, over and over again,
I had to break free of my chain
For how else would I get hooked onto your crane.
I came to that spot everyday, people thought my sanity was on the wane.
For why else would someone do what I did everyday,
When I knew seeing you disappear everyday was the most excruciating pain.
They did not know though, that 10 seconds of speaking to you was a blessing that could outdo any bane.
Out of all the things I regret,
It definitely wasn’t hopping onto your train.

Gradually you also started to expect me there
To disappoint you by not turning up, is a thought I couldn't bear.
Speaking to you, I started to feel my heart for the first time,
Each moment spent with you was worth every red light jumped, worth every crime.
I learnt your name and what you did for a living,
If this works out as I wish, I know what I will be thankful for each thanksgiving.
So hopefully you be a bit patient with this,
Maybe you could come and join me in my bliss.
Out of all the things I regret,
It definitely wasn’t taking this risk.

Our 10 seconds slowly turned into minutes and then into hours.
Gradually I started believing this world could be ours.
it was a rainy day and yet you stayed there waiting for me,
So that we could communicate better, I asked for your number at half past three.
I got late to work the whole of next week,
Because the nights were spent speaking to you even if the network was bleak.
My conversational skills weren’t that great,
Yet somehow they kept you up till pretty late
Out of all the things I regret,
It definitely wasn’t asking you to a date.

The moment I saw you walk into the diner,
I knew I had never seen anything looking finer.
You had on a red spaghetti with a denim jacket,
Looking at you all the men could cause a racket.
As you sat down across the table,
Your hair fell to one side and damn, I was part of a fable.
Your sapphire earrings decorated your earlobe,
I was on the most beautiful spot on the globe.
You were wearing geeky spectacles
This made your face look like a magical spectacle
You ordered a pizza and some fries,
It was in that moment I realized that its not always that time flies,
For everything had paused in the back drop of your face,
It was just like in the movies and this was starting to seem like a successful chase
Out of all the things I regret,
It definitely wasn’t being there in that place.

I was a little silent that night.
You talking and me listening, it just seemed right.
We had our dessert, ice cream and cake.
I had to walk you home for my heart’s sake.
The weather was perfect, breezy and cool.
You put your jacket around me and made me seem like a most lovable fool.
We passed each other intermittent smiles,
It seemed as though I could go on for miles.
I gathered the courage and made move well planned,
Subtly bouncing my fingers off your hand.
You took the bait and that moment in time was the equivalent of an apostrophe,
You held my hand, and that prohibited me from collapsing, you avoided a catastrophe.

We had reached our destination across the park, arriving at your door,
The thought of you going brought my heart to the floor.
Though the silver lining was that you seemed just as disappointed as me on leaving,
Anyone who saw us, would see two people on the street, grieving.
As I said goodbye and leaned for an embrace,
Somehow both of us missed and my lips it hit your face.
We split, passing embarrassed grins
Somehow it wasn't awkward at all and I knew I had the win.
I left walking out into the dark,
A smile on my face forming a beautiful arc.
Out of all the things I regret,

It definitely wasn’t taking that bet that landed me at the house in-front of the park.
