Hasaya toh phasgaya!

India 2015: Welcome to the world where girls don’t wear short skirts. Why? Because that invites rape. But now that girls have made every guy there “bhaiya” that problem has been solved and rapes have become nonexistent today.  So has poverty been eradicated and illiteracy rates have plummeted to almost zero. Only few unsocial elements remain and that we will deal with very shortly? How dare they make fun of people with their consent and make people laugh.
Indian democracy has reached a very low point. Now even to make people laugh we have to think twice.  Okay lets analyze what set this heated discussion off. What was so wrong about the roast that AIB had to take it down among furor in the nation? Did it have obscenity? Yes. Was it abusive?  Yes. Were you forced to see it? No.  Did it have age and vulgarity warnings? Yes.  Yet many people, most of whom had the argument that it was against Hindu culture (hardline hindutva groups) forced it off the net, demanded an apology of those involved and even threatened to ban the films of the actors and many more threats followed. Sometimes I believe as India’s literacy rate grows and people start seeing through this religious fanatics and godmen, that these people have to find and create issues out of nothing in a desperate attempt to stay relevant.  What’s even more ironic is the silence of these people on issues like rape. The only assumption is that they believe these things to be pro their religion and plus of course it was the girls fault like always. The silence is deafening when their own leaders are charged for rape, in some cases they will literally lay down their lives in a bid to stop the police from getting their godmen.  But one cannot blame them, their purpose is achieved always. Tell a large number of people in a totally convincing manner using all your oratory skills that xyz is destroying their religion and then even if the crowd has not seen or doesn’t know what xyz has done they still get all agitated, patriotic and religious. These groups don’t gather the same crowds when for instance their very holy rivers are being polluted and killed. People need to see through these publicity gimmicks.
Having said that, its not hard to imagine normal sensible people to have a problem with the roast. It was abusive and it was carried away and a lot of people would not have liked listening to it. But then you cannot just ban the video! Free speech is everyone’s right. You have a problem with the video then you mail the makers, comment on YouTube, use strong language against AIB, write against it and voice your dissent. If you have the choice of disliking the video then others may have the choice of liking it. As long as no one is forcing you to watch what you don’t want to then I guess its okay. The terrifying part is that the sense of humor levels of the country has fallen down appallingly.  Cartoonists are getting arrested for being anti-national; comedians are being forced to take videos off. Very soon we will go back to two flowers touching each other to depict intimate scenes in movies. What’s the harm in laughing at your own self. I don’t think there is anything better than being your own source of happiness or laughter.

Please people don’t just follow a group or crowd that seems to be defending your religion or value system. Are you so weak that you cannot do that yourself? Is your religion so weak that it will be destroyed by some stupid video on YouTube? If that is the case then I think you need to look in the mirror while pointing a finger.  My only suggestion is lighten up, life is too serious in any case, and if not then atleast let others have that choice.
